Compositions
I write music in many styles and genre. On this page you'll find classical pieces, an excerpt from a Broadway show and quiet meditations in a "Windham Hill" style.
Solitude: Meditations for Solo Piano
I have always enjoyed sitting at a piano in a quiet room, letting my thoughts meander musically over the keys. Sometimes, I've written them down, but usually, they are just for the moment and then are gone. I recently started transcribing some of my quiet times and compiled them into a book of 11 meditations and added simple oboe and cello accompaniments. Here are three of them recorded in my home studio. The oboist is my daughter, Natalie. The book is published by Hope Publishing, released fall 2012.
First In My Heart
Sextet for Oboe, Piano and String Quartet based on the Irish hymn tune, "SLANE" - also known as "Be Thou My Vision." The performance is from my daughter Natalie's Master's Recital at Michigan State University. The title is taken from third line of the third verse of the hymn, "Thou and Thou only, first in my heart / High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art."
"First in My Heart" was written as a Christmas present to Natalie in 2012. The hymn is one of Natalie's favorites, and since her earliest days of oboe study, she has used the tune as part of her warm-up routine.
Micro Symphony
Symphony in Four movements for Large Orchestra.
The goal was to create a "standard" Symphony, using the classic forms, but only four minutes in length (exactly one minute per movement). The video shows the forms as they occur with the music.
1. Sonata Allegro form
2. March, A-B-A form
3. Slow Dance
4. Rondo (A-B-A-C-A)

The video includes discriptions of what is happening in each section.
Unquenchable Spirit
Tone Poem for orchestra written as a response to 9/11. Programmatic piece describing the development of a concept or idea and its eventual triumph despite intense opposition. Video is a synthesizer rendition of piece with the text of the descriptive program.
